Our Story: A Newtonian Moment
Kid Car is what happens when a piece of flying waffle strikes an over-active imagination.
In 2001, I was having brunch with friends on the Upper West Side of Manhattan when I was hit by a piece of flying waffle hurled by a toddler at the next table. My friends, two of whom were doctors, started talking about how many babies were in the restaurant and how they all needed to be in car seats until they were four years old.
Fast-forward to 2005
While I was in business school, New York changed it’s laws to require that children under the age of eight be properly restrained in car seats. With that increase, the idea of a kid’s car service became a lot more interesting – I dusted off my notes from 2001, raised some money, and in 2006 I launched Kid Car, the first car service to provide fully vetted drivers with age and weight-appropriate, properly installed car seats.
Fast-forward to 2016
Kid Car jumped on the rideshare bandwagon and introduced an app that allowed parents to make reservations without picking up the phone.
Fast-forward to 2020
A pandemic brought the world to a virtual halt, but also allowed Kid Car to expand to more than a dozen US cities and counting.
Today
Since 2006, Kid Car has remained the only car service to offer fully vetted drivers, a choice of vehicles, and age-and-weight-appropriate, properly installed car seats.
