Service Area

See our website for an up to date list of cities and airports where Kid Car is available.  Please Email Us with your travel needs if you are unsure of our availability.

Please note that our app may NOT prevent you from making a request that is outside our travel area so PLEASE contact us well before you need service to ensure availability.

Reservations

Kid Car requires at least 2-3 hours’ notice for reservations depending on the city, but the more notice the better (24+ hours is ideal).

Maybe: Rides > Future > Select Reservation.  If Edit is not an option, please cancel and remake it.  Please see our Cancellation Policy below for more information.

Reservations can be copied.  If you are making more than 20 reservations for recurring rides, Email Us and we will help.

Local Rides and Kid CarPools: There is no charge for the first 15 minutes.  After that, the waiting time charge is the vehicle’s hourly rate (Sedans: $1.00/ minute; Minivans: $1.25/ minute; SUVs: $1.67/ minute).

Airport Arrivals: Waiting time starts 45 minutes after the plane arrives at the gate for domestic flights and 75 minutes for international flights (Sedans: $1.00/ minute; Minivans: $1.25/ minute; SUVs: $1.67/ minute).

Airport Travel

Rides to the airport are made just like a regular ride.

If Kid Car is picking you up at the airport, please keep the following mind:

Your pickup time is your flight’s estimated time of arrival and we will track your flight.  Please don’t enter a pickup time later than your flight eta in an effort to avoid waiting time because a) we’ll wonder if we’re tracking the right flight and b) the flight gods will punish you with a 6 hour delay.

Waiting time charges are based on the vehicle’s hourly rate and are accrued in quarter‐hour increments:

  • Domestic Flights: 45 minutes after arriving at the gate
  • International Flights: 75 minutes after arriving at the gate

Be realistic about your luggage needs: For everyone’s safety, all luggage and strollers must be able fit in the trunk of the vehicle you hired.  If your luggage will not fit in the trunk, you will need to hire another car.

  • IMPORTANT: If you hire a Sedan, you will be charged the Sedan rate regardless of the vehicle that picks you up UNLESS it is clear that your luggage would not have fit in a Sedan.  If a Minivan/SUV driver feels that your luggage would not fit in the Sedan you reserved, you will be retroactively be charged for a Minivan (the next cheapest option).
    • Why? Because some people make/cancel sedan reservations until a bigger car accepts their request.
    • Ugh. Who would do such a thing? Not you, of course.

Vehicles

We provide luggage and passenger guidance in the app.  Please note that for safety, all of your luggage, with the exception of laptops and purses, must fit in the trunk.

IMPORTANT: If you request a Sedan and the Minivan/SUV driver that accepts your request feels that your luggage would not have fit in a Sedan, you will be retroactively be charged for a Minivan (the next cheapest option).

Why? Because some people make/cancel sedan reservations until a bigger car accepts their request.

Ugh. Who would do such a thing? Not you, of course.

Kid CarPool

If your program or activity lasts 3 months or longer and the carpool is 5 days a week, register on our website and we will help make the reservations.

Children under the age of 8 must be in a car or booster seat and be accompanied by a responsible sibling or caregiver.

  • Sedan: Up to 3 children, 2 car or booster seats
  • Minivan: Up to 5 children, 4 car or booster seats

Kid CarPool reservations are made in the app just like regular rides:

  • Pickup Address: The first stop in the Kid CarPool.
  • Additional Stops: Please enter these in the desired pickup order; ‘Waiting Time (Minutes)’ should remain 0
    • Consider adding a name and/or cell phone number in the Notes
  • Drop Off Address: The final stop in the Kid CarPool.

Instructions for the driver? Any pickup or drop off instructions for the driver can be added in Additional Services> Driver Instructions.  Please be extremely concise.

Car Seats

Kid Car car seats are NCAP crash tested, the industry benchmark for verifying child seat performance in severe accident conditions.

We use convertible car seats designed for children from 5lbs to 120lbs:

  • Rear-facing 5-point Harness (5-45lbs):
    • Please note that our car seats have been certified to be safe in a crash WITHOUT the use of an insert.  In some cases we add an insert to make mom and dad feel better, but it does NOT increase the safety of the child.
  • Forward-facing 5-point Harness:
    • >40lbs: Straps are positioned for a typical 2-4 year old
    • 40-65lbs: Straps are positioned for a typical 4-7 year old
  • Booster Seat: For children >40lbs
    • Both child and car seat are restrained using the seat belt.  The child’s elevated body provides proper fit for both the lap and shoulder belt

We train drivers in the proper installation of a variety of infant car seat using the American installation method but there are too many seats on the market to make the drivers proficient in every make/model. If a driver does not feel that they can properly install your car seat, they will ask that you use ours for your baby’s safety.

You are responsible for any cleaning fees related to your child. If your child is prone to car sickness, please let your driver know and they will do their best to provide an even smoother ride.  Please don’t suggest the driver is to blame for your child getting sick – They aren’t.  Seriously.  They. Are. Not.

Cancellation Policy

Reservations before 10am must be cancelled within 2 hours of the scheduled pickup time in order to avoid a cancellation charge equal to 75% of the original charge for our Standard Service and 100% of our Luxury Service..

Newborn Reservations

Do not reserve a car until after mom and baby have been discharged unless you are being discharged after 6pm, in which case please make your reservation before 4pm for the time you think you will be discharged.  Wait UPSTAIRS in your hospital room for the driver to arrive.

The app will not allow you to make a reservation less than 2 hours in the future.  If you are ready before then, indicate the desired time in Trip Information > Driver Instructions > Pickup Instructions and we will do our best.

Bringing your own car seat?  Select Vehicle – 1 Car Seat and choose Bringing own (we’ll help).  The driver will install your carrier using the lap belt, which provides an equal level of protection as the base that came with your seat (so leave your base at home). If the driver is not confident in the installation, we will ask that you use our car seat instead (to ensure your baby’s safety).

Kid Car uses convertible car seats. Kid Car uses convertible car seats for children between 5-45lbs in the rear-facing position AND up to 120lbs in the forward-facing position.  The car seat is probably bigger than the one you (should) have waiting for you at home, but it is specifically designed for children as little as 5lbs.

Food & Pets

Many of our passengers have severe food and dander allergies and an emergency detour to a hospital because of an allergic reaction is not fair to anyone.  So…

  • No food or drink of any kind (except water) may be consumed in our vehicles.
  • Animals must ride in travel crates or a bag.

NO EXCEPTIONS. Seriously. None.

Pricing

AIRPORT TRAVEL

Airport Estimates are a fixed rate and include taxes, fees, and a 20% gratuity for the driver; round-trip tolls (if any) are not included in the Estimate.

Departures:

Arrivals:

Standard Service: Passengers can choose to be met inside the airport ($25 + parking) or curbside ($0).

Premium Service: All passengers are met inside the airport at no additional cost.

LOCAL RIDES

Standard Service:

Waiting Time: Waiting time starts 15 minutes after the scheduled pickup time (Sedans: $1.00/ minute; Minivans: $1.25/ minute; SUVs: $1.67/ minute).

Round-trip tolls (if any) are not included in the Estimate.

Point-to-Point Service price estimates are based on Google Maps estimates of time and distance.  While distance does not change, traffic can affect travel time and therefore the final cost.

Hourly Service rates shown are based on estimated hours for the ride.  Kid Car will charge for all actual hours.  Actual Hours include garage time, travel time, and all wait time for each trip.  All hourly rates include a minimum of two hours per trip.  Email Us prior to making your reservation with any questions.

Premium Service:

Kid Car’s Premium service is only offered by the hour.  All hourly rates shown are based on estimated hours for the ride.  Kid Car will charge for all actual hours.  Actual Hours include garage time, travel time, and all wait time for each trip.  All hourly rates include a minimum of two hours per trip.  Email Us prior to making your reservation with any questions.
